The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS Oct. 3/2020

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “new/old.” Use either or both of the words “new and old” any way you’d like. Bonus points for starting and ending with either one. Have fun!

New, I needed something new. It had been 7 months since I had got my hair cut. I am a pretty low maintenance kind of gal. I don’t like to pay 100’s of dollars on my hair. There are so many other fun things I would rather buy that cost that much. So please don’t fault me, I get my haircut at Great Clips (gasp right) yep! For real! Even my mom is in shock, and awe that her daughter goes to Great Clips. How dare, lol!

So I went in I didn’t want anything drastic as I am growing out my hair. I just need a fresh new feel. So I proceeded to show her my picture of how I wear my hair now…At least on a good day, and when it is not in a baseball hat.

The gal cutting my hair was sweet, and probably no older than my own daughter, and step daughters. She says, “oh yeah like my mom wears her hair”. In an instant I went from feeling good about walking out feeling a sense of new, to feeling old! I thought man I am really getting to that age, 46 the uphill climb. In February I will be 47, I am no longer considered young.

On a positive note, it didn’t get me down. It was just more of a realization of my age. I am older! I am not that young 20 something girl anymore. Also another cool thing at least while at Great Clips which many of my friend’s, and as I mentioned even my mom frown upon she didn’t say, “oh yeah like my grandma wears her hair”. So I walked out feeling pretty good (a little skip in my step) only spending $18 plus a tip for feeling fresh, and new even though I am considered old! 😂 👵🏻

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. Psalm 139:14

  1. WOW!! I salute you for the double mastectomy! What courage! As for hair …. I DO like to spend hundreds of dollars on my hair and IMO have the best hair stylist around. Of course I color and highlight my hair …. in my 60’s feeling a good 20 years younger. As I’ve told some …. yes I still do have some vanity left. LOL Great writing on the prompt! Loved it! xo

    1. Awe thanks! I feel younger than I am too. I still have my cane moments. I just praise God the cancer is gone! 1 more surgery, and prayerfully it will all be in the past! I do my own color as well, I will not pay the kind of money stylists are asking. I just can’t justify it in my mind! Thank you for taking time to read, and as well comment! Blessings Lisa

      1. LOL Lisa, I can justify it in my mind. I work hard and have very few luxuries so this I consider my one luxury where I get pampered. I am seriously so happy for you that you beat cancer. Now it is up to you to eat a diet that keeps you healthy. I will pray for you. xo

      2. Thank you so very much! I am stronger now than I have been. I got back on the saddle very quickly, that meaning my mountain bike. I rode a ton this summer. My doctor was astonished when we saw me last. I go in the the 20th for my pre-op, and now Covid test for my surgery which is scheduled for November 9th. I eat very well, and self care has been key in my recovery! Again thank you Amy! 😊🤗

    1. My mother is 68 she has me when I had my daughter at 24. I believe because my children are both grown young adults, and began my life so early it makes me feel older lol. I don’t know I still feel young at heart! You’re not old either! 😊
